TRADITIONAL RESTORATION OF OAK AND ELM BEAMS

Much of my work carried out on beams has been arduous and demanding, but invariably worth the effort. Old oak and elm beams, when cleansed of years of black paint and discolouration, return to the natural beauty of wood. I do not sand blast but clean by hand, even revealing, in some cases, the original bark. The cleaning of the wood by hand causes very little damage to it. The timber is then coated to bring out the natural colours and beauty. Many of these beams are believed to have been saved from the wreckage of the Spanish Armada but they have retained the strength and beauty of these hard timbers.

Below is a fine example of a bale house beam.
